  • Gain insight into personal style and how it affects use of time

  • Apply time management theory to a personal action program for use back on the job

Underlying Ideas:

  • Manage activities, not time.

  • Use of time is a habit. To change it, we need practice and reinforcement. After we identify your major time wasters, you must pick a partner back on the job who can remind you and help you keep track of new habits.

  • We will start with conventional wisdom and rules, then we will consider when and how to break these rules.

Topics:

Part I - Rules of the Game/Common Pitfall/Things to Avoid

Part II - Applying the Rules/An In-Basket Exercise

Part III - Management Style

  • What your preferences around getting things done?

  • We’ll discuss work patterns based upon your preferred way of giving and receiving information. This will be examined in both the external, formal systems and the internal, cognitive systems.

  • Using the three instruments filled out in pre-work.

  • To heighten awareness of your daily habits.

  • To provide a basis of analysis for the group to share their solutions to managing time on the job
